Exercising After Giving Birth

Hello friends!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I have had some significant life changes! Last November, I welcomed my first child into the world and have never slept through the night since. Seriously.

Before my pregnancy, I was pretty active; I loved long bike rides and weight training. During my pregnancy, with a few adjustments, I tried to stay active, trading my bike rides for laps at the pool and keeping the weights light. I’ve read stories about women who exercise almost right after birth and thought I would be one of those women. Surprise, I wasn’t.

At the six-week postpartum mark, I thought enough time had passed. Let’s give this a go. My stomach was still bloated, and everything felt weak. Step-ups were hard, and any abdominal workout felt like I shouldn’t be doing them. So I stopped. I used whatever time I had to rest, and it exactly was what I needed.

Fast forward to 4 months, my baby sleeps for longer stretches throughout the night, and I have more energy! Sleep deprivation is hard on the mind and body; if you’re a new mom, give yourself some grace and take it easy.
